KODIAK ISLAND-At approximately 10 pm on Saturday night, the United States Coast Guard Station in Kodiak responded to a call reporting an injured hunter at Halibut Bay on the west side of Kodiak Island.

James Monroe, 21 years of age, from the city of Kodiak, had fallen off of a cliff while on a hunting trip in the remote bay. The Coast Guard arrived on the scene, retrieved Monroe and transported him to Kodiak to the Kodiak Providence Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation surrounding the accident is continuing and the next of kin has been notified.

Halibut Bay is roughly 16 miles from Karluk, the nearest community on the west side of Kodiak. The area is not accessible by road.
