At approximately noon on Sunday a Cessna 207 on floats taking off from the Naknek River collided with a guide boat on the river near King Salmon.
As the aircraft, owned by Katmai Air and piloted by 62-year-old King Salmon resident Raymond Petersen crashed into the guide boat, the skipper of the vessel, 29-year-old Wisconsin resident Ted Gibson and his two passengers in the guide boat were thrown into the water.

After colliding with the vessel, the Cessna 207, with its seven occupants, flipped upside down in the river.
Several vessels in the area witnessed the accident and responded to the victim’s aid. All three occupants of the vessel and the seven occupants from the aircraft were pulled from the water.
Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Bristol Bay Police and EMS responded to the scene after the incident. Two of the aircraft’s passengers and one of the vessel’s occupants were transported to the Naknek Clinic with minor injuries.
The FAA and NTSB have been notified of the accident and are working with the troopers in the investigation.
Retrieval of the aircraft, partially submerged and held afloat by only its pontoons, is underway this morning.
