The Fairbanks man, Nyrobbie Chandler, who pled guilty to the strangling death of Kaylynn Bishop, is due to be sentenced for his crime on Tuesday morning according to court documents.
The 36-year-old Chandler can be sentenced for as much as 75 years for the death of his girlfriend who was killed by Chandler on May 6th, 2012.
Chandler was arrested in August of 2012 after a three-moth investigation into Bishop’s death. Investigators said at the time that they had Chandler in their sights, but were waiting for forensic results before going ahead with the arrest.
Chandler disposed of Bishop’s body after strangling her to death in early May. He attempted to bury Bishop behind an abandoned vehicle at mile 357 of the Richardson Highway, but her partially buried remains would be found by a passerby.
Chandler also, in an attempt to cover up Bishop’s death, sent text messages from her phone to her job saying she would be missing work because she was going on a trip to Chena Hot Springs. Chandler also attempted to get back the money that Bishop had put down as a deposit on a rental unit, Bishop had left a $400 deposit with an apartment owner
Chandler told investigators that Bishop had returned home late from work at the Hideout Bar and that after arriving home, received a call from an unknown person, at which time she left. He told investigators that was the last time that he had seen her. Investigators checked up on Chandler’s story, but did not find any record of the supposed call.
During a hearing this monday, Chandler’s only words during his time to spewak was “I’m sorry.” His attorney, Robert Noreen read his statement to the court. Part of that statement read, “I want people to know I am not a monster. I never meant for this to happen. I would like to be forgiven for what I have done.”
Friends and family of both the victim and defendent spoke at the hearing on Monday.
The presiding judge, Superior COurt Judge Douglas Blankenship will sentence Chandler at 9 am Tuesday.
