The Battle Creek Kellogg Company, the makers of Rice Krispies among other cereals, released an apology to customers on Monday, after a video surfaced showing an employee urinating on product on the Rice Krispies Treats production line.

“Kellogg takes this situation very seriously and we are shocked and disappointed,” company President Paul Norman said in a news release. “While this behavior was disgusting and criminal, this type of situation is a food-quality issue and does not present a food safety risk.”

Company officials say that they have determined that the video that  surfaced on Friday, was taped in 2014. They determined this by looking at the video and seeing that changes in the production line, that were not seen on the video, were made after that date.

The production line incident affected Rice Krispies Treats, Granola Clusters and other puffed rice products.

Kelloggs stated that the incident occurred at the Memphis plant.

From October 2013 until August of 2014, the company had strained labor relations when they locked out more than 200 employees and brought in casual workers to take over the positions a $6 less per hour and less benefits. Working at the plant then were both Kellogg and temporary employees. This is the approximate time period that the video was made.

There were never any customer complaints made in connection with the incident.
