Kenai woman, Karen Carpenter, was found guilty of six felony sex trafficking and prostitution charges by a Kenai jury on Wednesday. She was running the sex business out of her massage parlor, "Gifted Hands Massage."
It was an online advertisment seen by the Anchorage Police Department that tipped off the Kenai police which led to an investigation beginnning in December of 2012. The Anchorage police called a Kenai investigator on December 12th.
The Kenai investigation would find that Carpenter had two people working for her, both of whom were working there under assumed names.

After a preliminary investigation, enough evidence was compiled to apply for and get a search warrant for the business. On January 9th, 2013, an undercover officer visited the establishment where Carpenter explained the services to the faux customer. She explained the dual services that the massage parlor offered, massage or companionship, and informed the undercover officer that he was welcome to take part in either the massage or sexual favors during the time purchased.
A second undercover officer would visit the parlor the next day. During that visit, he would find out from Carpenter and 19-year-old Adison Murrieta, who went by the name Miley, that he could purchase sex for $400 per hour. Both Carpenter and Murrieta agreed that they would perform sex acts for that sum.
In a separate interview, Jonah Lange, who went by the name Kellie, admitted to performing sex acts for money on at least two occasions.
Carpenter and Murrieta were arrested on prostitution charges on January 11th. A summons was issued for Lange.
Carpenter pled not guilty to the charges the same day, but bail was not set.
Although Carpenter does not have a criminal record, she said that she had worked as a prostitute in Fairbanks before going to Kenai and opening up the massage parlor in the fall of 2012.
Carpenter’s sentencing is due to take place on August 15th.
