On Saturday night at approximately 8:15pm, Alaska State Troopers in Selawik received a report from an emergency room doctor at the Maniilaq Medical Center in Kotzebue. A 22 year-old female was being treated for injuries there.
It was reported that the woman was being treated for injuries sustained from an assault by her boyfriend. She complained of pain to her face and body. She was reportedly punched repeatedly by her boyfriend prior to him leaving the scene with their two-year-old daughter.
According to the report, the man, as yet unidentified, left on a snowmachine with the child. The child was wearing only a diaper and a long-sleeved shirt. The temperature was approximately -15 degrees at the time.
The two-year-old child was transported by the boyfriend to the house of one of his relatives and left there. She is reported to be unharmed. The boyfriend then fled upriver on his snow machine. It is said that the man was intoxicated and alcohol was a factor.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
Charges of Assault IV and Endangering the welfare of a Child in the First Degree have been leveled at the man.
