Alaska State Troopers reported via the trooper dispatch that a man aboard a vessel anchored off of Afognak was found dead on Friday.

Troopers say that they were advised of the death of 33-year-old Vance Curtis of Kodiak aboard the F/V Fairwind while the vessel was anchored on the west side of Afognak Island.

Curtis was found dead of hanging in an apparent suicide. Troopers do not suspect foul play at this time.

Curtis’s remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office at that office’s request.

Curtis’s next of kin were notified of his passing.
