At 4:30 am on Tuesday, an adult female on Spruce Cape Road in Kodiak called 911 reporting a man was in her home in violation of a Domestic Violence Protection Order.
Because the caller’s location put her outside of the city limits, an off-duty trooper was called and responded to the scene.
When the trooper arrived at the scene, he discovered that the suspect had already left. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Teddy J Lorenson, AKA Teddy J Chariaga of Kodiak. Through the investigation at the scene, the trooper was informed that Charliaga had threatened a family member there with a knife and had also destroyed property.
After the investigation on Spuce Cape Road was concluded, Charliaga was seen operating a vehicle and troopers attempted a traffic stop. Charliaga refused to stop at the direction of the officer and took them on a reckless, 40 minute pursuit.
Charliaga’s vehicle was later found abandoned on Old Tom Stiles Road.
Coast Guard Base Military Police and the Kodiak Police Department K-9 Unit assisted in the search for Charliaga at the scene of the abandoned vehicle, but failed to find Charliaga.
At about 7 pm the same day, Charliaga turned himself in at the Kodiak Jail.
Follow up investigation also discovered that Chariaga had caused several thousands of dollars worth of damage to a Bell’s Flats business.
Charliaga was charged with Assault III(DV), Violation of a Domestic Violence Protective Order x3, Criminal Mischief III(DV), Chriminal Mischief IV (DV), Criminal Mischief III, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, and Eluding I. He was held without bail pending arraignment.
