A local Kodiak man, 28-year-old Justen Nixon was shot at a home off of Spruce Cape Road on the northeastern outskirts of town at approximately 3 am this morning.
According to trooper reports, they were called just prior to the shooting about a fight taking place at a party and it was apparent at that time that the situation was escalating. While they were on the phone, gunshots rang out. When they responded to the residence at 3384 Spruce Cape Road, they found that the victim, Nixon, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Kodiak EMS immediately transported Nixon to the Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center. He was later declared deceased.
Nixon was the only victim in the shooting, no others at the scene reported any injuries.

Everyone present at the time of the incident is cooperating with authorities, including the man responsible for the shooting. Troopers were able to piece together the details prior to the shooting but have not yet released that information. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has been brought in to investigate the incident and are still on the scene.
The Alaska Native News has learned the identity of the shooter, but that information is not being released at this time.
Nixon’s body is being transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy and Nixon’s next of kin has been notified.
This is the second shooting incident to plague the city of Kodiak in the last three months, the first was the shooting of two individuals on the Coast Guard base in April. Authorities are still seeking information on that case.
