KOTZEBUE, Alaska-Yesterday afternoon about 3:30 pm, Alaska State troopers from the Kotzebue post, along with an Alaska Wildlife trooper and an investigator from the Western Alaska Alcohol/Narcotics Team arrested 40 year old James Darin Monroe of Kotzebue on a Sexual Abuse of a Minor warrant issued out of Kotzebue by the police department there.
He was located by searchers earlier on Tuesday about 22 miles outside of Kotzebue, along the Noatak River, after he disappeared from the town on Christmas day. He fled the community after the warrant was issued for his arrest. He was found then dressed for the -40 degree weather and armed with a pistol. During that encounter, he refused to go back to Kotzebue.
Yesterday, the troopers, wildlife official and investigator responded to the area he was last seen in and was located at a cabin nearby. He was taken into custody without incident.
The warrant was issued for his arrest after an investigation found that he had sexually abused a three year old in Kotzebue.
He was transported to the Nome jail and is being held on $100,000 bail.
