Alaska State Troopers revealed that a crewmember on the 95-foot f/v Ocean Hunter suffered injuries that resulted in his death last Wednesday.
The vessel was fishing longline in the Bering Sea when the incident occurred, AST reports. According to the report, 55-year-old Kodiak resident Christopher O’Callaghan was working on the deck of the vessel when the accident occurred.
The vessel was tied up to another vessel west of Alaska in the open sea transferring fish when “a slack line suddenly went taut,” the report revealed. The line, when it snapped tight, caught O’Callaghan across the chest causing bruising and internal injuries. His passing was witnessed by others on the deck.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]O’Callahan’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy and his next of kin were notified of the incident.
