A Marten Dragging a fighting chicken across the North Tongass Highway caused a collision on Saturday, according to troopers.
Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers and the North Tongass Fire Department responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident near mile 10 at 11:50 am on Saturday and transported one 21-year-old passenger to the hospital for treatment of possible injuries.
The trooper investigation at the scene found that 75-year-old Myrna Losquadro of Ketchikan, while driving her 1999 Honda Civic, encountered a Marten dragging/fighting a chicken across the highway as she rounded a turn on the highway. Losquadro slammed on her brakes to keep from running over the duo locked in mortal combat, and as a result, was rear-ended by a 1998 Dodge pickup also traveling south-bound traveling on the slick, wet road surface.
Losquadro’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Purdy’s Totem Towing. The driver of the Dodge pickup was able to drive his vehicle from the scene.
