A 33 pound tumor growing in a two-year-old Mexican boy was removed by doctors in Mexico two weeks ago.

The tumor weighed more than the young child that it came out of. The young boy, Jesus Gabriel weighs only 26 pounds. Jesus was born with the lump that eventually grew to enormous proportions.

The large tumor that began under his right armpit extended down to his hip. The tumor was so large that it was cutting off the child’s oxygen supply.

Doctors labored in the operating room for over 10 hours detaching the massive tumor from the small child. It was reported yesterday by the director of the La Raza Medical Center that the young boy from the northern state of Durango has done well in his recovery, and the operation is considered a success.

That operation two weeks ago marks the first time that a tumor weighing more than the subject has ever been removed.

Larger tumors have been removed from patients however. In August of 2010 an Argentinian woman had a tumor that weighed 56 pounds removed from her womb.That tumor had been growing for a year and a half in that person. Prior to the surgery, that woman couldn’t lean over to tie her shoes and could barely walk. When she was released from the hospital, she weighed 70 pounds less than when she was admitted.
