A 31-year-old South Miami man shocked the Facebook community on Thursday when he confessed to shooting and killing his wife, 26-year-old Jennifer Alfonso, then posted an image of her dead body clad in black and wearing pink socks on his Facebook page.
In one of his last posts to his Facebook page, Derek Medina wrote, “I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys. Miss you guys. Take care. Facebook people you’ll see me in the news.” He also posted, “My wife was punching me and I’m not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did. Hope u understand me.”

His Facebook page remained online for hours until police finally contacted Facebook and requested that the page be removed.
At about noon yesterday, after posting to Facebook, Medina walked to the police station in South Miamai and spoke to police about the incident. Armed with his statement, a search warrant was issued and police began combing the scene at Medina’s house at 5555 SW 67th Avenue, gathering evidence of the killing. By Thursday night, Miami police had charged Medina with Murder I.
Medina told police that he had gotten into an arguement with his wife and went upstairs and retieved his firearm which he pointed at Alfonso, in response, Alfonso fetched a kitchen knife. Medina took the knife away and put it back into the drawer according to reports, and while Alfonso was kicking and hitting him, Medina shot his wife according to a Miami police affidavit.
A young girl, Alfonso’s daughter from a previous relationship was upstairs when the killing occured, but was unharmed.
According to Alfonso’s friends and family, the two had a very digfficult and stormy relationship. They were married in 2010, only to get divorced in February of 2012, then re-married a couple of months later. Medina was characterized as a jealous and demanding person and had problems holding down a job.
That could not be seen on his Facebook page however. There, videos and pictures showed him enjoying sports and spending leisure time time having drinks beside the pool, and going on boating trips.
Medina had 164 friends on his Facebook account and his last posts were shared by over 100 people before the image was removed and the page was taken down.
