The search warrant was carried out at 24-year-old Buford Rogers’ 1204 Benson Avenue Lot#8 residence on Friday, and Rogers was arrested at the same location.
The FBI also reported that they had found molotov cocktails and a suspected pipe bomb as well as a Romanian-made AK-M assault rifle at the residence. Rogers is prohibited from possessing the firearm as a result of a previous felony conviction for burglary. At the time of his arrest, Rogers was charged with one count of being a Felon in Possession of a firearm.
Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis Division, Christopher Warrener said in the release, “Cooperation between the FBI and its federal, state, and local partners enabled law enforcement to prevent a potential tragedy in Montevideo.”
FBI Spokesman Kyle Loven said in a statement today, “The FBI believed there was a terror attack in its planning stages, and we believe there would have been a localized terror attack, and that’s why law enforcement moved quickly to execute the search warrant on Friday to arrest Mr. Rogers.” Loven pointed out that the FBI is looking at this from a domestic terrorism standpoint and that it is a very active investigation. He would not get into any further details about the suspect’s religious or political views.
Rogers is to appear in Federal Court today.
Very little information beyond that is being released by the agency at this time.
