ANCHORAGE, AK – Senator Lisa Murkowski will attend this weekend’s Arctic Circle 2014 conference in Reykjavik, Iceland – an annual event designed to increase the Arctic dialogue and strengthen the international focus on the future of the region.
Alongside international leaders such as Iceland President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, Finland President Sauli Niinistö and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Murkowski and recently announced Arctic Representative Admiral Robert J. Papp will lead one of four plenary session discussions with attendees.
“America is an Arctic Nation and as one we must engage and show thoughtful leadership in the Arctic community, especially as we prepare to Chair the Arctic Council next year,” said Senator Murkowski. “The activity in the region is increasing, interest in the Arctic is on the rise and investment is surging – which is why I look forward to standing up and representing U.S. interests and viewpoints as the international community continues this important conversation.”
