On Thursday, March 15th, Dillingham-based Alaska State Troopers received a call from Nondalton reporting a stabbing in the village.
Dillingham and King Salmon State Troopers arrived at 630 pm along with a VPSO from Newhalen.
Alex Olympic, age 68, of Nondalton was pronounced deceased at the Medical Clinic in the village.
Officers were informed that the suspect had fled the village on foot. Four Troopers were supplied with snow machines and were assisted by village members on snow machines. In a short time, the suspects were caught up to a few miles north of the community. They took an adult male and a male juvenile into custody at that time.
After an investigation, the juvenile was charged with Murder II and Evidence Tampering for the stabbing death of Olympic. The adult male was released.
Alex Olympic’s body was transported to Anchorage to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy and next of kin was notified.
Nondalton is a Tanaina Indian community of approximately 160 residents. Nondalton is situated on the west shore of Six-Mile Lake, 190 miles to the southwest of Anchorage. The community moved to its present location in 1940 when wood depletion and growing mudflats necessitated the move.
The Alaska State Troopers wish to thank the villagers of Nondalton for their assistance in the case.
