Noorvik VPSO Bobby Itta responded to a disturbance call at 2 am on Saturday in Noorvik and had a close brush with a shotgun, it was reported in the trooper dispatch.
When VPSO Itta responded to the disturbance call in Noorvik during the early morning hours of Saturday, he came face-to-face with a shotgun. Itta had contacted 21-year-old Roy Johnson Jr of Noorvik, and Johnson leveled a 20 gauge shotgun at Itta.
Fortunately, after that initial contact, Johnson fled the scene and he could not be immediately located.
As a result of that incident, Alaska State Troopers in Kotzebue applied for and was granted a warrant for Johnson’s arrest on charges of Assault III. Johnson, because he was drinking at the time of the incident, was also charged with Misconduct Involving Weapons IV.
On Monday, Alaska State Troopers traveled to Noorvik to locate Johnson. Johnson was found at his family home in the village. This time, Johnson gave up to officers without incident. Johnson was transported to the Kotzebue Regional Jail where he was remanded on $15,000 bail and a Court Approved Third Party Custodian.
The community of Noorvik, with its population of approximately 670, is located on the right bank of the Nazuruk Channel of the Kobuk River 47 miles east of Kotzebue.
