This week the National Rifle Association released their ratings and announced they are endorsing Rep. Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) in his bid for re-election. Kawasaki received an “A-” rating which the NRA defines as a “solidly pro-gun candidate.”
“I am a life member of the NRA and I firmly believe in protecting the second amendment,” Kawasaki said. “I supported the right of Alaskans to keep and bear arms over the last few years and will continue to protect this right.”
The NRA joins a growing list of organizations and community leaders who have rallied behind Kawasaki’s campaign. Kawasaki recently received endorsements from the National Education Association, Alaska Teamsters, Public Safety Employee Association and the Alaska Women’s Political Caucus.
“No one who follows my record should be surprised,” Kawasaki said. “I always put Alaskans first and have a strong record of defending our constitutional rights. Fairbanks families deserve a representative who puts principle ahead of party.”
The NRA is one of the nation’s oldest gun safety organizations that advocates for enforcement of existing laws to prosecute and punish violent criminals. The NRA is the nation’s leader in gun safety education and promotes marksmanship among law enforcement officers. The Association has approximately four million members across America, thousands of whom live and work in Alaska.
