It has been almost a month since their last face to face discussion on the debt reduction plan, but President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner sat down at the White House and attempted to search for a resolution to a deficit reduction package in an attempt to avert the substantial automatic spending cuts scheduled to take place at the first of this coming year.
The meeting caught many by surprise as it was not on the official Whitehouse schedule.
The statement coming from both camps after the discussion at the Whitehouse was concluded read, “This afternoon, the President and Speaker Boehner met at the White House to discuss efforts to resolve the fiscal cliff. We’re not reading out details of the conversation, but the lines of communication remain open.”

On Friday, Boehner took a jab at Obama saying that he had “wasted another week” pointing out the lack of progress in the “fiscal cliff” situation that is slowly coming to a head on January 1st if an agreement is not found. Boehner had put out an $800 Billion plan that included revenue increases last week, but President Obama said that that plan did not go far enough and didn’t include a tax increase for the top 2% of earners.
Several economic experts including Christine Lagarde has predicted a sharp decline in confidence and “zero” economic growth if no agreement can be found before the deadline that is less than three weeks away.
