Crown Point Troopers were notified Wednesday morning at 9:25 am of an attack on an officer at Spring Creek Correctional Center.

The officer was working in the inmate housing area when he was attacked by an inmate housed at the center.

Apparently, the attack was planned and coordinated. Two other inmates at the facility joined in on the attack. The inmates kicked an punched the officer, who suffered blackened eyes, bruises and cuts that needed stitches.

The officer, and the two inmates that joined in the attack were transferred to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. The instigator of the altercation was not injured in the fight and did not require medical attention.

The officer involved in the fight was threatened as recently as the day before with violence.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the incident. No charges or names have been released as yet.
