According to Alaska State Trooper Dispatch, about 1 am yesterday morning, Bethal-based Alaska State Troopers were notified that Jed Alexie age 20, of Nunapitchuk, and Merlin Felix, 21 of Toksook Bay were overdue arriving at Toksook Bay on their snowmobile trip from Nunapitchuk.
At about 2 am yesterday morning, they were then seen as they passed by Nightmute. Shortly after that, it is reported that the two became separated. At about 3:30 am, Merlin Felix arrived at Toksook Bay.
A ground search team was sent out to search for Alexie when he did not show up yesterday. That team returned this morning because of deteriorating weather conditions. Ground search crews from nearby villages are waiting on improved weather before launching their ground search crews.
Blizzard conditions have also prohibited any air search to take place.
Toksook Bay is on the Bering Sea side of Nelson Island, 115 miles northwest of Bethel. Tooksook Bay has a population of approximately 600 people.
