Alaska State Troopers responded to a two vehicle accident on the Old Glenn Highway at 12:16pm Wednesday.
When they arrived they found critically injured Christa E Russel, age 16, of Palmer. Russwel was transported immediately to Mat-Su Regional Hospital by Life Med Alaska helicopter. She succumbed to her injuries there.
The investigation of the accident scene determined that Russel, driving a 2002 Toyota Camry first stopped then proceeded to cross the Old Glenn Highway on Bodenburg Loop.
A 1999 Kenworth dump truck, operated by 39-year-old Jacob J. Fortman of Wasilla was traveling south on the Old Glenn Highway. The Camry pulled out into the path of the dump truck colliding with Fortman. As a result of the collision, both vehicles were deemed a total loss. Fortman reported no innjuries.
Both drivers were buckled up at the time of the incident.
Russel’s remains will be examined by the State Medical Examiner’s office. Next of kin was notified.
Investigation into the crash continues.
