It was announced today by the Department of Justice, that Peterburg man, 46-year-old Tye Leif Petersen pled guilty to charges for the distribution, receipt, and possession of child pornography.
The Federal Bureau of investigation carried out the investigation that resulted in charges being leveled at Petersen. the FBI, following a lead from a related federal investigation taking place in the Eastern District of Tennessee, were led to an e-mail account belonging to Petersen.
That child for not graffiti investigation originating in Tennessee found that Petersen had received 22 videos end 291 photos of child pornographyfrom the individual under investigation in Tennessee.
Armed with that evidence, the FBI applied for and received a search warrant for Petersen’s home and property. When FBI agents carried out their search, they recovered 11 CD-ROMs, five thumb drives, three detached hard drives, and one Apple desktop computer which all contained images of child pornography. Additional 37 videos of child pornography were also discovered on that computer. During the investigation Petersen would also identify an additional e-mail account, dad account also showed activity of distribution of child pornography.
At sentencing, which is scheduled for November 11 at 11 AM, Petersen may face a minimum mandatory sentence of five years on the distribution and receipt charges and can be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
