At approximately 8:45 pm on Sunday, Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call reporting a plane crash near the Talkeetna Airport. Troopers and EMS immediately responded to the area and took up a ground search in an effort to locate the downed aircraft and its pilot.
After searching the area for about 20 minutes, troopers report that they located a red and white 1970 Champion 7ECA, and its pilot, 54-year-old Palmer resident David L. Meyers. The aircraft was found at the north end of the airport in the trees.
“Meyers was conscious and alert, but had suffered serious injuries,” the troopers report. After extracting Myers from the aircraft, he was transported to an Anchorage hospital by LifeMed helicopter.
The aircraft suffered extensive damage.
The FAA and NTSB have been notified of the incident. They will be continuing the investigation.
