On Friday afternoon about 4 pm, Alaska State Troopers in Saint Mary's were advised of a hit and run that involved a snow machine.
Descriptions were given of the person and the snow machine. The description of the man responsible matched the description of a person of interest in other cases in Pilot Station.
The trooper investigation found that 18 year old Zachary Myers of Pilot Station, while operating a 2002 Polaris Snow machine on the roadway, collided with a 2008 GMC pickup. Witnesses reported Myers was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Myers fled the scene.
A search was conducted in the village and as a result, Myers was found at a local residence attempting to evvade the officers. After a short struggle with troopers, Myers was taken into custody and transported to the Saint Marys Trooper Post. At the post, Myers refused to give a datamaster sample of his breath.
Troopers are holding Myers at the post until he can be transported to the Bethel Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center.
Damages are estimated at over $3,000 and the snow machine is a total loss.
Myers is being charged with Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test, , Hit and Run, Minor Operating After Consuming Alcohol, Minor Consuming Alcohol, and Resisting Arrest.
