MEXICO-Mexican authorities announced yesterday that they had thwarted a plan to smuggle 38 year old Saadi Kadafi into Mexico. Saadi, the son of now dead Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi, was to travel to Mexico using falsified documents along with three others. Once there, they would have taken up residence in the ritzy Punta Mita resort area. The area is frequented by fun-seeking celebrities and is dotted with million dollar villas.

Mexico’s National Post reported that Gary Peters, the head of the private Canadian security firm, Can/Aust Security & Investigations International, had served as Kadafi’s bodyguard for years and was instrumental in Kadafi’s escape into Niger. Peters had told the newspaper that the villa at that resort had been purchasd , but also said that the documents were legitimate. He said, “People are getting arrested wrongly.”

The United States had issued a travel ban on the slain leaders son and had froze his assets. He is wanted by Interpol for “armed intimidation,” as well as misappropriation of property. These charges stem from his time heading the Libyan Football Federation. Saadi had played European Football professionally before failing a drug test.

The three others accompanying Saadi to Mexico remain unidentified. Although, it is suspected that the three were family members. The names, Daniel Bejar Hanan, Amira Sayed Nader, Moah Bejar Sayed and Sofia Bejar Sayed, were the monikers they would have used to gain entrance into Mexico.

Mexico’s Interior Minister, Alejandro Poire said four suspects, two Mexicans, a Canadian, and a Dane had been arrested and charged with the plot last month. They had developed a plot that involved safe houses, bank accounts, and private jets for transporting Saadi and his small entourage. The suspects are identified as Cynthia Ann Vanier, who is a Canadian National, Mexican nationals,Gabriela Davila Huerta, or Davila de Cueto, and Jose Luis Kennedy Prieto, and Danish national, Pierre Christian Flensborg.

Canadian Vanier was the leader of the ring and was in charge of finances. She supposedly had direct contact with Kadafi. The Mexicans, Huerta, (Cueto) and Prieto, were in charge of obtaining the fake documents, while the Dane, Flensborg was taking care of the logistics portion of the plot.

The news was announced one day after an article was published in a Canadian paper outing the plot.
