A majority of Anchorage residents, as well as 25,000 Chugach residents lost power as the powerful storm swept through Alaska’s largest metropolitan area. The area lost power last night about 10:30 pm.
As of this morning, a large majority of the drivers heading off to work this morning were greeted with intersections that sported no traffic lights. A majority of Municipal Light and Power customers were still without power, as well as 22,000 Chugach Electric customers. School District schools were closed today as was the UAA campus as the utility workers struggle to restore power to the stricken city.
As ML&P and Chugach Electric workers continue to work to restore power in the area, it is unknown if residents will see power by this evening or if the outage will continue into Thursday.
