Richardson Highway Rollover Claims the Life of One

Alaska State Troopers responded to a fatal accident on the Richardson Highway during the early  morning hours of Saturday.

According to the trooper dispatch, troopers went to and began an investigation at mile 352 of the Richardson Highway after receiving a report of a roll-over at 12:33 am.

THe ensuing investigation found that a Chevy pick up was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on the highway. But, the driver of the vehicle lost control and entered the center median. The vehicle rolled several times on the highway and came to a rest in the northbound lane of travel.

The only passenger in the vehicle, 26-year-old Fairbanks resident Amber Rae Evans, was suspected of not having her seat belt in use, and was ejected as the truck rolled on the highway. She did not survive the accident.

The trooper investigation at the scene determined that 26-year-old Fairbanks resident Kieran Duffy was driving the  vehicle at the time of the rollover. Troopers would observe “multiple signs” that Duffy was under the influence of alcohol.

Afterr consulting the District Attorney’s office, the decision was made to arrest Duffy on charges of negligent homicide.

Evens’ next of kin was notified.
