CHICKALOON, ALASKA-Alaska State Troopers received a call yesterday evening at about 4:47 pm. The caller reported an overturned vehicle near mile 86 of the Glenn Highway. When troopers and the Bureau of Highway Patrol arrived on the scene, they found a vehicle, upside-down and partially submerged in a pond next to Long Lake.

Divers were called to the scene, they did not arrive until after the vehicle had been up-righted however. Drivers, who had stopped at the scene, were able to extricate the driver Leah Thompson,28, and her two children, Avery McIntosh, age 5, and Trinity McIntosh, age 7, from the vehicle. CPR was attempted at the site, but the attempts were unsuccessful. Leah Thompson was declared deceased at the scene.

Her two children,, Trinity and Avery were transported to the Mat-Su Regional hospital where they were declared deceased after their arrival.

Trooper investigations showed that Thompson was traveling south-bound on the highway. She lost control of the vehicle and it slid off the road, rolled at least once and came to rest upside-down in Long Lake.

Investigation into the unfortunate accident are continuing and next of kin have been notified.
