Presidential candidate Mitt Romney stumbled as he tried out his international diplomacy legs in Britain today.
In an interview with NBC news two days before the Olympics opening ceremonies Mitt Romney openly doubted whether Britain could handle the games. He told NBC that there were “disconcerting” signs about the preparations for the games. He said in the interview “You know, it’s hard to know just how well it … will turn out.”
Romney’s diplomatic blunder astonish number 10 Downing St. and senior British government source said “What a total shocker. We are speechless.”
Britain’s Prime Minister, David Cameron wasted no time slapping down Romney for his remarks. While on a visit to the Olympic Park, Cameron said “We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it’s easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.”

London Mayor Boris Johnson also voiced his rejection of Romney’s statement, saying “London is as ready as any city has ever been in the history of the Olympic Games.”
Earlier in the day, at Westminster, it appeared that Romney had forgotten the labor leader, Ed Miliband’s name, instead, he chose to address him as Mr. leader as they shook hands.
Also during the day Romney was able to meet with Sir John Sawers, who is the chief of the secret intelligence service, MI6. this briefing was held away from the camera’s eye. Later, at number 10 Downing St., Romney would announce that he had met with Sawers, this was seen as a faux pas as visiting dignitaries tend not to announce meetings with that country’s Secret Intelligence Service.
in Romney’s first full day of sporting his international diplomatic skills, it seems he has handed the Obama campaign its first victory in the foreign relations arena.
