On Saturday, while speaking to an Ohio audience, Presidential candidate Rick Santorum, told those in the room, that President Obama adhered to "some phony theology. Not a theology based on the Bible. A different theology."
On Sunday, when asked about that statement the day before on “Face the Nation,” Santorum tried to explain the statement away as a disagreement over global warming. He said there, “I accept the fact that the president’s a Christian, I just said that when you have a worldview that elevates the Earth above man, and says that, you know, we can’t take those resources because we’re going to harm the Earth by things that frankly are just not scientifically proven, like for example that politicization of the whole global warming debate, this is just all an attempt to centralize power, to give more power to the government.”
President Obama’s campaign has said in response, that Santorum has gone “well over the line” with his comments about Obama and his religious beliefs. Campaign advisor Robert Gibbs continued by saying, “It’s wrong. It’s destructive.”
As Santorum has continually moved to the front of the pack in the Republican race for nomination, he can expect to be called out more often for his remarks. Until now, he has remained off the radar with the Obama Re-election campaign, but with this weekend’s comments we may soon see a change in focus.
