Santorum, the former Governor of Pennsylvania, has a comfortable lead in opinion polls in the state of Louisiana with elections just two days away.

According to Rasmussen Reports, a leading national pollster, Santorum is leading the former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney by 12 percentage points in their most recent poll. Santorum was favored by 43% of those polled, with Romney receiving 31%. Gingrich faired much worse at 16% while Ron Paul garnered only 5%.

Rasmussen polled 750 likey Republican Primary voters and the survey was conducted on March 21, 2012. The sampling error for the poll was +/-4% with a level of confidence of 95%.

Meanwhile, Rasmussen’s Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, which shows likely voters nationally, shows that if elections were held today, that Santorum would lose to President Obama in a Presidential race. President Obama took 49% of the poll while Santorum received only 41%. The polls show that if the matchup was between President Obama and Mitt Romney, Romney would fair better taking 44% compared to a rating of 47% for President Obama.

As for approval ratings for the President, Obama gets 47% of the polled population saying they somewhat approve of his performance, while 51% somewhat disapprove.
