The active search for a Larimer County, Colorado man has ended, according to Alaska State Troopers, after their search turned up no results near Keanai Lake after he went missing from the area on Saturday.

Friends of 34-year-old Daniel Campeau called troopers at 11:36 on Saturday reporting that they could not find him after he walked away from their Kenai Lake campsite near Moose Pass. They reported that he was highly intoxicated when he left the campsite that was situated approximately 60 feet from the lakeshore.

Following the missing persons report, Alaska State Troopers, the Moose Pass Fire Department and U.S. Forestry Officers searched for Compeau in the area. Although none of Compeau’s gear was missing from the campsite, a trail of clothing was found leading to the lake from the campsite.

Searchers drug a portion of the lake, but debris hampered much of that effort. Dogs were also called in with negative results.

Compeau, a commercial fisherman, had resided in St. Paul and Akutan previously, moved to Colorado in 2012.

Compeau’s next of kin were notified of the search efforts.
