Alaska State Troopers were notified last night by a frantic caller around 9:45 pm that a Selawik man was smashing snow machines.
Troopers responded to the late Tuesday night call to find a man, identified as Christian Dean Myers, age 19, of Selawik, still at the residence challenging the household where the call was made.
Seeing the trooper approaching, Myers tried to make a getaway on a snow machine. He was quickly detained.
The trooper on the scene investigated the incident that led to the call. When questioning witnesses, he found that Myers had, earlier in the evening, been at the school, where he asssaulted an unnamed male. The man defended himself and Myers was rendered unconscious.
Myers went to the man’s residence and went inside to retaliate for the earlier incident. Another altercation ensued. Myers began destroying snow machines at the residence. He did approximately $5,000 worth of damage to two machines.
He was asked repeatedly to vacate the premesis. He did not. The victim, at the residence, retrieved a firearm and discharged two warning shots away from Myers and several of Myers friends who had accompanied him. He still did not leave.
The trooper found Myers to be under the influence of alcohol. Myers was arrested and transported to Kotzebue for arraignment and remanded without bail.
He was charged with Assault in the Fourth Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree X2.
