Top Republican and Senior Democrat on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to View Renewable and Conventional Energy Facilities

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will spend the weekend showing Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) around Interior and Southcentral Alaska to discuss energy and public lands policies with her colleague on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The senators will hold media availabilities in Chena, Kenai and Anchorage while they are in Alaska.

The visit, which begins in Fairbanks on Saturday, is an opportunity for Sen. Murkowski to acquaint Sen. Wyden with Alaska’s vast and varied energy resources. The trip will include a renewable energy fair and tour of the geothermal power operations at Chena Hot Springs, near Fairbanks. Sens. Murkowski and Wyden will also visit a liquefied natural gas facility in Kenai and an offshore oil and natural gas production platform in Cook Inlet. They will conclude their trip with a visit to an Anchorage health clinic run by the Southcentral Foundation.

Sen. Wyden’s trip to Alaska follows last year’s visit by Sen. Murkowski to Oregon, where they toured a number of local energy production facilities and met with energy executives.

Sen. Murkowski is the top Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Sen. Wyden is in line to replace Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico next year as committee’s top Democrat. Wyden is currently the chairman of the Public Lands and Forests Subcommittee.
