A 45-year-old Napaskiak sex offender living in Anchorage is now in jail on charges Sexual Abuse of a Minor II in connection with the 14-year-old Anchorage girl who was found dead near the Muldoon Road Baptist Church in East Anchorage on Sunday morning.

Court records show that 45-year-old Stewart Emery was arrested and charged with Felony Sexual Abuse of a Minor II and was arraigned on Tuesday afternoon. His bail was set at $25,000 cash/corporate and $25,000 cash performance as well as a Court Approved Third Party Custodian.

According to police reports, a 15-year-old boy and the 14-year-old girl, identified as Megan Sophie Johnson met up between midnight and the early morning hours of Sunday near the Cabin Tavern on Muldoon. A short time later, Johnson and the boy, met with Emery and began drinking Tanqueray Gin with him near the church.

The teen told investigators that during that time in the early morning hours, the teen left Johnson and Emery alone and Emery had sex with the young teen. Emery admitted to this, and told investigators that he thought that the girl was between 15 and 18. Emery also told police that he believed that Johnson also had sex with the 15-year-old teen. The teen denied having sex with Johnson, but did say that  the last thing he remembered before falling asleep was kissing and touching the 14-year-old Johnson.

The exact cause of death has yet to be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s office, and the autopsy showed no obvious outward signs. The toxicology report will take up to two months, and only then can the exact cause be determined.

Emery was convicted in February of 1996 on a previous Sexual Abuse II charge. That offense occurred in October of 1995. In the last two and a half decades, Emery has been involved in, and has gone to court on, dozens of other cases.

Emery is due back in court on Thursday for a pre-indictment hearing.
