An aftershock later at 11:56 am registered at 5.8 on the scale. It occurred 70 miles west northwest of Attu Station.
That aftershock was generated at a depth of 13.5 miles beneath the Aleutian Chain.
The earthquake and its aftershock occurred in a relatively uninhabited part of the Aleutian Islands, but was felt in Shemya. There were no reports of injuries and was not strong enough to topple items from shelves.
The “Strike-Slip” quake, like most of its type did not generate a Tsunami. Even if it were the more serious “thrust” earthquake, a 6.0 is not powerful enough to generate a wave of any significant height.
