An Sleetmute man is in the Aniak jail today after attacking another man in Sleetmute with an ax on Wednesday, troopers report.
The report from Sleetmute went in to the Alaska State Toopers in Aniak at 1:20 pm. The caller reported that a 56-year-old man was attacked by 25-year-old Kristopher Gregory with an ax, injuring his head.
Troopers responded to the community 166 miles to the northeast of Bethel and conducted an investigation into the incident. The investigation revealed that Gregory first attacked the older man with his fists then grabbed an ax and aimed for the victim’s head. The victim told troopers that “he was able to get his hands on the ax as it was coming down, which softened the blow.” Even though the ax did not land with full force, the victim still suffered injuries.
Troopers say that alcohol was a factor in the attack.
Troopers arrested Gregory and transported him to Aniak where he was jailed on Assault II charges, and is awaiting arraignment.
