According to Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, U.S. spy agency contractor-turned-leaker, Edward Snowden has taken a job in Russia and will begin in November, it was announced on Thursday.
Snowden, who has been living on limited funds, mostly from donations, has taken a job providing suport for a Russian website says Kucherena. The name of the website or its location as well as the location where Snowden is living has not been revealed because of security concerns.
Earlier this summer, Russian President Putin denied U.S. requests to turn the 30-year-old Snowden over to authorities in the U.S. for prosecution on charges of espionage. Snowden was granted temporary asylum in Russia in August and can renew his asylum annually.
Snowden caused an uproar in the U.S. when he disclosed documents revealing among other things, the secret Internet and telephone surveillance programs carried out by the U.S. government in June.
After disclosing American serveillance secrets, Snowden fled to Hong Kong before continueing on to Russia where he attempted to seek asylum in several countries but was thwarted in his attempts. He consequently remained in the Russia’s Sheremetyevo International airport for over a month before being granted temporary asylum.
