A deceased 74-year-old Soldotna man was recovered from the Delta River on Wednesday evening, troopers reported.
Troopers received a report of a man in the Delta River at 2:54 pm on Wednesday. State and Wildlife Troopers, the Fort Greely Fire Department, the Rural Deltana Fire Department, Alaska Wildlife Trooper Helo-5 and Army Black Rapids Training Center personnel immediately responded to the scene.
According to the initial report, 74-year-old Daniel Mahan was operating his Argo ATV when it overturned in the river and he drowned.
Responders were unable to access the location where the Argo and Mahan were at due to swollen river depth. The Rescue Coordination Center was contacted and a UH-60 Blackhawk was dispatched to the scene.
At the scene, the Blackhawk was able to deploy a basket and retrieve Mahan’s remains.
Mahan’s next of kin have been notified of the incident.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
