Ketchikan Dispatch received a 911 call on Saturday from Taquan Air Reporting a missing person at Salmon Bay Lake on Prince of Wales Island.
According to the report, Taquan Air had flown a lone sport fisherman, David Ford, age 57, of Ketchikan to a U.S. Forest Service Public Use cabin at the area and returned to pick him up on Saturday, but were unable to locate him.
A four man Hasty Team from Klawock Search and Rescue travelled to the area to initiate a search. At about 6 pm, the Hasty team found a smaill skiff with Ford’s belongings in it at the mouth of the creek. The creek drains directly into the ocean.
The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad joined the search for Ford on Sunday. They have been conducting a search on foot with two canine SAR teams. They have also been searching the area by air with Temsco helicopters.
The United States Coast Guard has also joined the search and has flown the area by helicopter equipped with a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera to no avail.
The U.S. Forest Service has sent an additional seven searchers tto the area today. All efforts have been unable to find any signs of Ford.
