Detectives from the Anchorage Police Department arrested James Marques, 34, of Anchorage for Murder yesterday evening.
He was charged with First and Second Degree Murder subsequent to the death of his girlfriend at a local hospital where she was taken, in grave condition, for a gunshot wound to the head.
Marques called 911 yesterday and announced to dispatch that he had shot his 47-year-old girlfriend at the apartment he and her shared at 3032 West 42nd Avenue.
According to a spokesman for the police, Lt. Dave Parker, the suspect said “he needed to go to jail.” When police arrived, Marques surrendered immediately.
Marques is expected to be arraigned this afternoon at the Anchorage Jail.
