A trespass and theft was reported to the Klawock based State Troopers on Saturday from the community of Naukati.
Apparently, between the 13th of this month and the 17th, an unknown trespasser went to the community’s oyster farm and stole a bin of oysters containing 30,000 to 40,000 oyster spat. The value of the spat is estimated between $1,100 and $1,500.
Naukati is a homeowners association located about 35 miles north of Craig/Klawock.

Naukati was originally a logging camp that was owned by Louisiana Pacific that was turned over to the state of Alaska by the United States Forest Service. The community has been developed over the last 30 years after lots were sold to residents. Naukati remains a homeowners Association and a 501 C4 corporation after a 2006 vote to become a second class city. The voters turned down the ballot.
Current population is currently estimated at about 117 residents.
Naukati supplies spat to many of the oyster farms in the state. The oyster nursery was built in 2002 with financial help from the United States Forest Service.
Apparently the State Troopers in Klawock have as yet to develop any leads to the theft and they ask anyone with any information on the crime to call them at 1-800-754-2918.
