Alaska Bureau of Investigation and Bethel police continue to examine evidence and are developing the case of the dead cab driver in the Napakiak.
Since the arrival of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation on February 2nd at 8 am, the two departments have been working together to collect information. They have interviewed multiple community members in both Bethel and Napakiak. Through information garnished from those interviews, they have identified a single suspect in the case. A Crime Lab Technician has also been active on the case.
That suspect has been arrested and is incarcerated at the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center on unrelated charges. Authorities have not publicly released the name of that individual.
It was on January 31 at 22:34 am that the Bethel Police Department contacted Alaska State Troopers and informed them of the dissapearance of Young Suk Chong, age 54, a taxi driver from the Taxi Cab Company in Bethel. She had been missing since 3 am that morning.
On February 1 at 10:14 am, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a cab found at the Napakiak dump. Napakiak is about 15 miles to the southwest of Bethel. When investigators responded to the scene, they found Chong deceased in the cab.
