Three hours after troopers responded to a report of a dead woman, later identified as 56-year-old Gitte Stryhn, in the ditch alonG Coal Road off of the Healy Spur Road this morning, troopers located the suspect vehicle involved in the crime.
Stryhn was struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning while bicycling to work at the Kantishna Roadhouse. Her body was found by a co-worker about a block from her home. Troopers believe that Stryhn was hit at around 5 am as that is the time that she routinely left for work. The vehicle that struck her drove away after the incident without reporting the accident.
At 10am troopers located a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 parked at a residence in Healy, the Dodge had front end damage and evidence left at the scene matched the truck.
Troopers contacted the owner of the vehicle. He was identified as 30-year-old Healy resident Dustin Dollarhide. He was taken in and questioned today. After questioning Dollarhide, and contacting the Fairbanks District Attorney’s office, Dollarhide was placed under arrest and charged with Manslaughter, Failure to Report an Accident, and Driving Under the Influence.
It is unknown if a caller reported the suspect vehicle or if it was located by troopers looking out for vehicles matching the evidence at the scene.
