Tanana is still suffering from an Internet and partial TV outage after an incident, just after midnight on January 1st, when the celebration in that community ramped up to bring in the New Year.
As is tradition, the celebration included firearms that were fired into the air to bring in the New Year, but this year, the years-old tradition resulted in a shut-down of Internet and television when one partier shot into the air hitting a fibre-optic cable suspended 20 feet in the air above them.
Ralph Eller, the owner of Yukon Telephone Co Inc and Supervisions Inc, found .410 shotgun casings below the suspended cable when he investigated the outage. He also saw that the fibre optic cable riddled with pellet holes. He contacted troopers, who investigated the incident. But, no one is talking.
Estimated damages are approximately $10,000.
