A report went in to the Alaska Wildlife Troopers reporting that several men were chasing a moose through a swamp near the Knik River with an airboat while shooting at it with a bow and arrow on August 10th.
On August 13th, another complaint came in about the August 10th event.
On Wednesday, trooper dispatch reported that the investigation into the incident found that Palmer residents 46-year-old Troy Edward Martin and 48-year-old Robert Walter Nash chased down a bull moose and shooting at it from Martin’s airboat.
The men herded the bull moose through the swamp with the help of 56-year-old Kodiak resident Matthew Keplinger, who with Martin steered the airboat, as the men shot at the moose with arrows ultimately killing it.
Search warrants were issued and executed, and the moose meat, compound bows, airboat and trailer were seized.
Martin and Nash were both issued three misdemeanor summons, and Keplinger was issued two summons. The charges in the case were Unlawful Methods of Taking Big Game(drive, herd,harrass) Unlawful Methods of Taking Big Game (shooting from a boat) and Unlawful Transport/Possession of Big Game.
The three men are to appear in Palmer court at a later date.
