Early Sunday morning at about 35 minutes past midnight, Alaska State Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop at mile 33 of the Glenn Highway.
The state troopers initially stopped the driver of the two-door Honda Civic, 19-year-old Anchorage resident Mong Xiong, for speeding. But, once contacted, it was determined that Xiong was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested then for DUI.
Upon his arrest, it was discovered that Xiong was underage, he was further charged with Minor Consuming Alcohol and Minor Operating a Vehicle after Consuming Alcohol.
During his arrest, it was found that Xiong was in possession of Marijuana, he was charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance VI.
During the investigation, the troopers were notified that there was a handgun in the vehicle, Xiong was further charged with Misconduct Involving a Weapon. When the serial number of the weapon was investigated, the troopers found that that handgun had been reported stolen out of Anchorage. Xiong was further charged with Theft II.
Xiong was transported by troopers to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility where he was remanded.
Xiong’s bail was set at $5,000.
