After an initial investigation, foul play is not suspected in the shooting death of 26-year-old Trapper Creek resident Cody Parry.
On Saturday, according to the trooper report, Parry and 29-year-old Trapper Creek resident Kyle Strong were on a hunting trip near mile 169 of the Parks Highway.
The two were staying at a cabin about one half mile off of the highway in a cabin owned by Parry’s family.

It was there at that cabin that, according to Strong, he was working with his weapon, a 30.06, after cleaning it, when it went off accidently. Parry was sitting on a couch nearby, when the bullet entered and exited his leg.
Strong attempted CPR on Parry after the injury. Strong then attempted to get Parry to the highway, but was unable to do so by himself. That was when, Strong told troopers, that he ran to the highway and flagged down a passing motorist to assist him in getting Parry to the highway.
Strong and the motorist were able to transport Parry to the highway on a four-wheeler. where Trapper Creek EMS responded and declared Parry deceased according to the report.
Troopers say that Parry’s remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.
Next of kin have been notified.
